Super disappointed with this book. Claims to be the most recent version (2015) but I actually think a cover has been placed on an older version. Text refers to US Airways (no longer in operation) and things "being built in 2012". The photos are all fuzzy, and there is a LOT of repetition throughout the book. This is why I always buy Lonely Planet, and not Fodor's. Bummer LP don't have a Cayman guide. I won't buy Fodor's again.
Grand Cayman is a wonderful place. It is also very small. So I am puzzled why the maps in this book are so poor. The author lists major attractions without clearly showing where to find them. The writing is also bland in the extreme. I am left yearning for the Rick Steves travel books. Too bad they only cover Europe! I am puzzled why an internationally known publication like Fodors can't produce a book that inspires excitement that this destination so richly deserves.
I would suggest getting an explore magazine on the island. It has awesome information!
it's far to easy to get trapped in seven mile beach in Grand Cayman if you don't have a book like this to tell you otherwise. It requires a good read-through before your visit, but Fodor's Cayman Island book helped us find many things we never would have found without it. We visited dozens of gorgeous beaches without another soul in sight. Finding inexpensive restaurants is near impossible without Fodor's guidance. Top it off with some nature trails and top notch snorkeling, and this cheap little book will give you some great memories you may not have gotten otherwise.
Grand Cayman isn't that big, but it is still amazing how completely this travel guide covers the island. Very accurate all around. This is a good book to have whether you are just doing a day trip off a cruise ship or are staying a week. One thing I appreciated was that they list places to stay and to dine across all price ranges, so if you feel like a simple hearty meal, they have it covered, or if you want to go for fine dining, they have that too. Remember to drive on the left.
A nice overview but things change so fast on the island, we found trip advisor a better and more current review of places to eat. We did use it as a reference as we had never​ been to the island.
I had an old book for Grand Cayman but wanted a newer version. This book was just published in 2011 so it was perfect. The book was great and gave a nice overall of the island. It has plenty of maps and reviews and suggestions of where you can visit during your trip. The restaraunt section and beaches section are especially nice. My book is already filled with book markers so I can pull it out and reference it while we are there. I would highly recommend this book for anyone traveling to Grand Cayman. Also, the size is great for fitting in a purse or totebag so you can easily carry it with you!!
Very good about explaining sights. What you will see. Restaurant reviews were right on. Listings for hotels were helpful. Driving information was inaccurate. You can use an international license, which is good anywhere for a year, rather than buying a local permit. As usual, doesn't really answer the question, why Caymans?
