I guess you need to know who will be reading this book. The book does not "flow well." For someone, who is unfamiliar with Mardi Gras, the book can come across as scatter brained and off topic.I am from New Orleans and was trying to read this to a confused class of 4-5 year olds and explain the basics of Mardi Gras. They had so many questions because the book's content was over their heads. This seems like it could be a filler book for a native, but not an educational one for the ignorant. On the flip side, they loved the pictures and the alligator was a big hit.
I used this book as my read aloud in a lesson plan on Mardi Gras. It is a great book. The illustrations are in purple, green, and gold and are just beautiful! Also, Gaston the alligator keeps the students' interest during the reading. Gaston is found on almost every page. In addition, there are many Mardi Gras traditions used in text. Examples are gumbo, fais-do-do, beads,parades, Boeuf Gras and King Cake. It was a great book to use for an anticipatory set of my lesson plan. I was able to transition into my teaching activities very smoothly after this interactive read aloud. I plan on using this book in the years to come. I enjoyed reading it and the children enjoyed listening and learning from it!
I love this author. Every family should have a collection from this author.

Not as good as the other "Gaston" books. Left out too much, but I used it for the classroom wiht my own knowledge to "dress it up" as bit
Book arrived in perfect condition
My granddaughters are collecting these and other cajun stories, so I bought one for each of them. They loved it, and enjoy reading them to their children. Since they both out of Louisiana, they want their children to be familiar with Louisiana terms and traditions.
The book is cute. I used it for a Children's Mardis Gras themed table at a party. It made a good display. I also read it to the kids a few times and they enjoyed.
