great new illusions
I have been a longtime fan of Optical Illusions of various types.I have a fair number of books of them among my collection of "Puzzle Books";and have written reviews on several of them.Some of the better known authors of these books are Al Seckel,Sarconi & Waeber,Priester & Levine,Sirett,Estep,and a number of books of M.C.Escher's works,;just to name a few. This is an excellent book of Optical Illusions that is similar but with many different examples of commonly seen illusions.It is a very well constructed,book of fine quality paper and color rendition.It consists of 208 pages Generally,authors of the better books on Optical Illusions are either artists who have created these Optical Illusions and/or have scientific backgrounds that allow them to discuss the interactions between the mind and sight that explain why the illusions work.This book is somewhat different as the authors basically a journalist who has collected works from many artists and sources.The names of the actual people who created the illusions and/or copyrite holders, are not given in the book ,but a website is given (www theknowledgepage.com)where they can be found.However;if one simply wants to look at the illusions without great information;as I suspect is the case of most people,it is still a very enjoyable and fascinating look into "the world of Optical Illusions. This book would be an excellent choice as a basic book of the various types of illusions ,impossible objects,andso forth for anyone wanting a fairly extensive treatment;and it would also be appreciasted by anyone who is very familiar with illusions,and always looking for new versions of well known methods and principles. At one time ,whole books of Optical Illusions were hard to find,but there have been many excellent ones published in recent years.Also a search of the Net under "Optical Illusions"will produce a plethora of excellent illusions,many which have movement,impossible to be printed.If one likes Optical Illusions and wants only one basic book;you can't go wrong with this one.
The book boasts oversized, full color photographs of 33 optical illusions, plus explains the brain science behind what is happening.The pages are well printted and the illusions work. Readers get hours of interesting optical phenomena. Excellent book.
